This is a guide to Potenza compiled by Dr. Choi Byeong-geun of SHINE U Clinic Konkuk (3 minutes walk from Konkuk Univ. Station Exit 1).
Frequent breakouts and the marks and scars left from self-treating acne were a concern. The darkened pigmentation made me self-conscious when facing people. While looking for helpful methods, I learned about the microneedle radiofrequency method.
How acne leads to scars
When there is a lot of sebum secretion or dead skin cells block the pores, sebum accumulates and the pores become enlarged. If sebum is not discharged smoothly, acne bacteria may proliferate.
- Pores are blocked and sebum accumulates
- Inflammation occurs and progresses to breakouts
- Remaining marks, scars, and enlarged pores
Having experienced marks from self-treatment, I sought a method that addresses both scars and pores.

Delivering energy to the dermis with needles
The skin is largely divided into the epidermis and the dermis. Potenza works by inserting fine needles into the dermis to deliver radiofrequency energy, generating heat to coagulate tissue. The depth of needle penetration varies from 0.5 to 4mm, allowing for customized approaches based on skin condition.

Thermal coagulation points and collagen production
When radiofrequency is delivered through microneedle insertion, thermal coagulation points are formed, and this process can induce the production of elastin and collagen. By delivering energy to the dermis, it is possible to expect tightening of enlarged pores, and it can also help to calm facial redness. The reduced concern about epidermal damage was also reassuring.

Layered approach with needle tips
There are over 10 different types of needle tips available, allowing for a customized approach depending on the condition and purpose. There are both invasive and non-invasive types, making it easy to apply to various layers, including the epidermis, as well as the upper and lower dermis. The invasive type was advantageous for efficiently delivering energy deep into the dermis with fine needles.

From sebaceous glands and inflammation to scars
It helped to reduce inflammation by treating the sebaceous glands and promote skin regeneration to calm breakouts. It also worked to tighten enlarged pores and improve acne scars. There was a low possibility of post-care pigmentation and not much crusting or facial redness, allowing for a quick return to daily life. However, the degree of results may vary individually.
Also addressing elasticity and skin barrier
The thermal coagulation points helped to produce collagen and elastin, which also helped to restore lost elasticity. As the skin barrier became stronger, issues like inner dryness and dehydration also improved significantly. As collagen and elastin were produced, natural volume was added, which helped to smooth out areas of concern with wrinkles.
