This is a guide to PicoSure tattoo removal compiled by Dr. Choi Byeong-geun of SHINE U Clinic Konkuk (3 minutes' walk from Konkuk Univ. Station, Exit 1).
There are various reasons for getting a tattoo, but many people look into removal as their tastes or values change over time. In some cases, professional restrictions may arise, or the color may change, making the tattoo unsightly. Let's examine how picosecond lasers target only tattoo ink.

The short duration of picoseconds
PicoSure is a device that applies the concept of picoseconds, which is one trillionth of a second. It works by irradiating high energy for a very short time, breaking down tattoo ink particles without damaging surrounding tissues. A key feature is that the short pulse duration reduces thermal damage.

Wavelength that targets only pigmentation
- Uses a 755nm Alexandrite laser beam
- Absorbed by the pigmentation that causes blemishes, but has a low absorption rate in blood vessels
- A device approved by the U.S. FDA that reduces unnecessary irritation
Because it selectively absorbs pigmentation, it is also used to treat pigmented lesions.

Why self-removal is dangerous
If you try to remove a tattoo yourself and deeply damage the skin, the infection can worsen and lead to permanent scars. In severe cases, more extensive treatment may be necessary. Therefore, it is important to receive treatment with approved equipment at an experienced clinic.

It doesn't end in one session
The recommended number of sessions and cycle vary depending on when the tattoo was done, its size, and your skin condition. It is rare for it to be completed in one session, so it is advisable to have a thorough consultation before the first treatment to determine how much progress is needed. Once skin health is lost, it is not easy to recover, so who performs the treatment is important.
Post-treatment care
Since PicoSure involves thermal energy, temporary symptoms may appear after the procedure. It is necessary to receive guidance on care methods and to undergo the procedure in a clean environment. However, results and the number of sessions may vary from person to person.
