This is a guide to Ultherapy PRIME, compiled by Dr. Choi Byeong-geun of SHINE U Clinic Konkuk (3 minutes walk from Konkuk Univ. Station Exit 1).
When researching lifting procedures, you often encounter the term "thermal coagulation point." This is also the core principle of Ultherapy. Let's explain how these points are created and why they lead to improved elasticity over time.
What is a thermal coagulation point?
Ultherapy focuses strong ultrasound energy on a single point. This is similar to how a magnifying glass concentrates sunlight.
- Heat is delivered to the focused point, and the tissue contracts.
- This point, formed in the dermis and SMAS layer, is called a thermal coagulation point.
Thermal coagulation points are reported to stimulate collagen and induce denaturation through contraction.
Why elasticity is promoted during the recovery process
When thermal coagulation points are created, our body undergoes a recovery process in that area. During this process, new collagen is generated, and the tissue is remodeled. This means that elasticity is gradually promoted over time, rather than an immediate change.

Why different depths are used
Ultherapy is designed to deliver ultrasound energy to various depths.
| Depth | Target Area |
|---|---|
| 1.5mm | Near the surface layer |
| 3.0mm | Middle layer |
| 4.5mm | Deep layer (SMAS layer) |
Since it can be applied to areas from the surface layer to the basal layer, it is helpful to proceed after comprehensively checking the bone structure, thickness, and stage of aging. The procedure is performed while checking which area the waves are acting on with real-time ultrasound imaging.
Who is it considered for?
- Those who desire natural elasticity recovery without incision
- Those concerned about sagging cheeks, cheekbones, or a double chin
- Those who want to treat deep layers without surface marks
As strong thermal energy is directly applied, it is safer to receive the procedure at a clinic that understands the anatomical structure and uses genuine tips. Results and suitability may vary depending on the individual.
