This is a guide to PicoSure tattoo removal compiled by Dr. Choi Byeong-geun of SHINE U Clinic Konkuk (3 minutes walk from Konkuk Univ. Station Exit 1).
Small, simple mini tattoos have gained popularity among the younger generation, but the number of people looking into removal due to changing trends or values, or for occupational reasons, has also increased. We have compiled frequently asked questions about small tattoo removal.

Can even small tattoos be removed with a laser?
Yes, we approach them with the PicoSure laser. This method delivers high energy in a short amount of time, breaking down melanin or tattoo ink particles without damaging surrounding tissue. It works on the principle of photothermal and photomechanical action, where the light is absorbed by pigments or melanin to break down particles, and it is a device recognized in Korea.

Is it safe for normal skin?
The 755nm Alexandrite laser beam is absorbed by the target area, but its absorption by blood vessels is low, so it works by treating only the desired area. You can also confirm that it is a US FDA-approved device.
Because it works by selectively absorbing pigment, it is used for pigmented lesions such as melasma or moles in addition to tattoos.

How do I choose the spot size?
| Tattoo Size | Spot Size Used |
|---|---|
| Small size | 2~6mm |
| Medium or larger | 8mm, 10mm |
There are spot sizes from 2~6mm to 8mm, 10mm, so we proceed according to the size of the tattoo you want to remove. Small sizes can be treated intensively, and by finely breaking down ink particles, it helps to approach various ink colors.
Consult to find out how many sessions are right for your tattoo size
Is anesthesia necessary?
It is generally not difficult to proceed without anesthesia. It delivers energy in a short time, precisely and quickly breaking down pigment molecules, and at the same time, by stimulating collagen and elastin, it can also help improve fine wrinkles. Return to daily life after the procedure is also relatively quick.
How many sessions do I need?
The recommended number of sessions and cycle vary depending on when the tattoo was done, its size, and your skin condition. It is rare for it to be completed in one session, so it is important to check your skin type and proceed accordingly. If done incorrectly, it can lead to inflammation or scarring, so it is better to receive treatment with certified equipment at an experienced clinic.
