This is a guide to Onda lifting, compiled by Dr. Choi Byeong-geun of SHINE U Clinic Konkuk (3 minutes walk from Konkuk Univ. Station Exit 1).

As more people seek to manage both the surface and deeper layers of their skin, there's growing interest in devices that use different methods than traditional radiofrequency (RF) or high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). Onda lifting, which utilizes microwaves, is one such device. Let's explore how Onda works and which areas it can be applied to.

2.45GHz Microwaves Resonating with Water and Fat

Onda uses microwave energy at a frequency of 2.45GHz. This frequency is known to have an absorption rate in water and fat tissues that is approximately 3-4 times higher than in other tissues. It penetrates the epidermis almost completely, concentrating energy on the water in the dermis and the subcutaneous fat layer. This helps to reduce energy loss or dispersion on the surface before it reaches the target tissue.

Acts on Dermal Collagen and Fat Tissue

  • The heat delivered to the dermis contracts collagen fibers and stimulates fibroblasts, inducing the production of new collagen and elastin.
  • Thermal energy in the subcutaneous fat layer affects fat cell metabolism, helping to reduce volume.
  • It is used for localized fat management around the jawline or bra line.

A key feature is its use of microwave selectivity to address both deep skin elasticity and fat tissue simultaneously.

Surface Protection and Deep Tightening

While using strong thermal energy, the contact cooling system built into the treatment tip protects the epidermis.

Even as the energy penetrates deep, the surface is cooled, so you don't feel the heat on the surface, only a warm sensation deep inside. With minimal surface damage, redness and swelling subside relatively quickly, and there is little disruption to daily life immediately after the procedure.

Consult about whether it's right for elasticity or contouring

Jawline, Neck, and Body Line Contouring

Onda is used for localized elasticity and fat management at the boundary between the face and body. If the jawline has sagged and fine fat has accumulated, it helps refine the contour by simultaneously enhancing dermal elasticity and reducing fat volume. It can also be applied to the neck skin to help regenerate collagen, and depending on skin thickness, different tips can be selected for areas from the thin face to thicker thighs and abdomen.

Daily Care to Support Results

Since microwaves act on water tissue, it can be helpful to drink plenty of water to maintain hydration. After the treatment, it is good to apply plenty of moisturizers containing ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and peptides to strengthen the skin barrier.

If you are wondering if Onda is right for your concerns, please inquire via chat consultation. Suitability can be confirmed through a consultation with Dr. Choi Byeong-geun.
