This is a guide to Thermage FLX compiled by Dr. Choi Byeong-geun of SHINE U Clinic Konkuk (3 minutes walk from Konkuk Univ. Station Exit 1).
Thermage is a radiofrequency (RF) device that has long been established as a non-surgical lifting treatment. Thermage FLX is the 4th generation version, and we will examine what has changed compared to previous models, focusing on technological advancements.

RF Energy Concentrated in the Dermis
Thermage FLX delivers high-frequency RF energy through the epidermis to the dermis and upper subcutaneous fat layer. This energy vibrates water molecules in the tissue, creating frictional heat, which is the main mechanism targeting collagen. When the tip touches the skin, cooling gas (Cryogen) is sprayed to protect and cool the epidermis. When the dermis reaches an appropriate temperature of 60-70°C, existing collagen fibers contract, resulting in tightening, followed by the generation of new collagen and elastin over several months.

From CPT to FLX: What's Changed
| Item | Previous CPT Model | FLX Model |
|---|---|---|
| Energy Control | Fixed method | Real-time adjustment after measuring resistance value with each shot |
| Tip Area | Standard | Approximately 33% wider Total Tip |
| Treatment Time | Standard | Reduced by approximately 25% or more |
| Vibration | Limited | 360-degree omnidirectional vibration |
The key is that the RF output is adjusted in real-time by measuring the skin's impedance with each shot.
This helps deliver energy uniformly to both thick and thin areas, contributing to a reduced risk of burns due to energy overload.

Wider Tip and Pain Dispersion
- The Total Tip is approximately 33% wider, reducing the number of shots needed for full-face care.
- Treatment time is reduced by approximately 25% or more, lessening the burden of fatigue.
- 360-degree omnidirectional vibration disperses pain signals, alleviating discomfort even at the moment heat is delivered.

Areas of Application
It helps improve fine wrinkles and refine skin texture through dermal collagen regeneration.

Eye Area and Duration of Effect
Using a thin and delicate Eye Tip specifically for the eye area, it can address fine wrinkles under the eyes or drooping eyelids. Since collagen regeneration continues for approximately 6 months after the treatment, a single session can help maintain improved elasticity for about 1 to 1.5 years. However, the duration of effect may vary individually.
