This is an acne treatment guide compiled by Dr. Choi Byeong-geun of SHINE U Clinic Konkuk (3 minutes walk from Konkuk Univ. Station Exit 1).
Acne is not just a problem for teenagers, but also frequently appears in adults. While many people tend to wait for time to resolve it, acne is an inflammatory condition that is prone to recurrence. In this article, we will categorize acne types and outline step-by-step management according to each type.
Why Does Acne Recur?
Acne is greatly influenced by environmental factors.
- Hot and humid conditions stimulate the sebaceous glands, increasing sebum secretion.
- Increased sebum allows acne bacteria to multiply, leading to inflammation.
- It can appear not only on the face but also on the chest and back.
Exploring Acne Types
Acne can be categorized by its condition.
| Type | Condition |
|---|---|
| Comedonal acne | Non-inflammatory comedone clusters |
| Papular acne | Slightly inflamed, reddish, swollen state |
| Pustular acne | Enlarged inflammation accompanied by pus |
This is a progression where comedones become inflamed with the addition of pyogenic bacteria, leading to suppuration and a pustular state.
The Role of BHA Peeling
BHA peeling is a step that helps to clear dead skin cells and waste products.
- With salicylic acid as its main ingredient, it helps to loosen the bonds in the stratum corneum.
- It is applied to remove dead skin cells, blackheads, and sebum.
- It can generally be performed on sensitive or dry skin as well.
After the procedure, the skin may be slightly red for 1-2 days, but cleansing and makeup are possible on the same day. It is usually performed 3-4 times at 1-2 week intervals. If you are curious about the number of sessions suitable for your skin, please check by consulting for acne management.
Customized Extraction
Extraction methods vary depending on the type of acne.
- It is performed after pre-identifying the amount and location of pus.
- Self-extraction can be unhygienic and easily leave red marks.
- Proper extraction can help prevent recurrence and scarring.
For more details, please refer to extraction.
Why Finish with LED?
After peeling and extraction, soothing and regeneration are necessary.
- Calms irritated skin.
- Helps cell repair with light energy.
- Works for both soothing/regeneration and scar management.
For LED regeneration management, please refer to regeneration laser.
Knowing Your Type Makes Management Easier
Knowing your acne type clarifies the direction of management.
- The intensity of peeling and extraction is adjusted according to the type.
- Soothing steps are added to minimize damage.
- Consider professional help when self-care is insufficient.
Receiving step-by-step management tailored to your type is more beneficial for recovery than enduring with self-care. If you are curious about your acne type, please feel free to ask about your skin type.
