This is a guide to SHINE U Intensive Scalp and Hair Loss Treatment, compiled by Dr. Choi Byeong-geun of SHINE U Clinic Konkuk (3 minutes walk from Konkuk Univ. Station Exit 1).

The number of people concerned about hair loss is increasing, regardless of gender or age. When hair is abundant, it's hard to notice a big difference, but when it becomes sparse, the scalp becomes visible, which can easily change one's impression. Even if a person has a youthful face, sparse hair can make them look older, so many people who are already experiencing hair loss try to address it from the root cause.

There is no single cause of hair loss

The exact causes of hair loss are not yet fully understood. Generally, the following factors are known to be involved:

  • Genetic factors
  • Hormonal action
  • Extreme stress
  • Problems with hair roots and growth cycle

Modern people, in particular, are exposed to a lot of stress, and acquired hair loss is also on the rise.

Prevention and progression stages require different approaches

If you are not yet experiencing hair loss, efforts to maintain abundant hair through lifestyle habits and scalp care can be helpful. However, there are limitations to reversing hair loss that has already occurred or progressed in stages, so it is more rational to address it from the root cause.

Blindly following methods that are not suitable for your condition can actually accelerate the progression. A careful diagnosis comes first.

Types of hair loss categorized by scarring

Clinically, hair loss can be divided into types that form scars and types that do not. The potential for recovery differs between the two.

CategoryNon-scarring alopeciaScarring alopecia
Follicle conditionHair follicles maintainedHair follicles destroyed
RegenerationExpected regeneration after symptoms disappearDifficult to regenerate
ExamplesAlopecia areata, androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium, etc.Hair loss due to lupus, hair loss due to burns/trauma, etc.

First, check what type of hair loss you have

It is difficult to judge by appearance alone

Symptoms that appear similar on the surface may be of different types upon close examination. Therefore, it is advisable to determine the direction of treatment after checking various factors such as hair roots, hair follicles, and skin type.

Components of complex care

The care performed in this case involved a two-pronged approach.

  • Injection care using complex multi-proteins to stimulate cells with reduced function and activate hair follicle cells to promote hair growth.
  • Care using regenerative laser to improve the scalp environment and help healthy hair grow.

The two types of care have different mechanisms of action, so they were designed to be used together to address both the scalp environment and hair roots simultaneously.

Responses vary individually

LED light therapy helps to alleviate inflammatory reactions in the scalp and is reported to help restore problematic hair roots and follicles. However, the degree and speed of improvement may vary from person to person, so consistent management and regular check-ups are necessary.

The key to hair loss treatment is to first categorize the type and then approach it according to your scalp condition. As the condition progresses, the options may decrease, so it is better to get an early check-up when you start to notice concerns.
