This is a guide to Thermage FLX compiled by Dr. Choi Byeong-geun of SHINE U Clinic Konkuk (3 minutes walk from Konkuk Univ. Station Exit 1).
Collagen is an important component for maintaining firm and elastic skin, and it also helps retain moisture. As we age, collagen production decreases, leading to reduced elasticity and wrinkles. Although I tried food and home care, it was difficult to diagnose what was lacking in which layer, so I decided to understand the principles and receive a consultation.
Changes that occur when collagen decreases
When collagen in the dermis decreases, the skin tends to sag and wrinkles appear easily. In particular, I felt the following changes:
- Fine wrinkles appear more easily on thinner skin
- Pores appear more prominent due to reduced elasticity
- Makeup creases or breaks down over time
Collagen ingested through food takes time to reach the dermis, making it difficult to feel immediate changes.

Beyond the epidermis, to the dermis
Thermage FLX works by delivering high-frequency energy to the skin to regenerate collagen in the dermis. If heat is only delivered to the epidermis, problems such as burns can occur due to the sensitive epidermis, and collagen production itself can be difficult. The key was that the high-frequency energy was designed to safely pass through the epidermis and reach the dermis. Since it is an FDA-approved device, concerns about safety could also be alleviated.

Two-stage flow of collagen regeneration
Collagen regeneration proceeds in two stages. First, initial denaturation causes the skin to contract and the fibrous septa to contract along with it, followed by a secondary wound healing response. At this time, the denatured collagen regenerates, increasing its density. The uniform delivery of heat to the entire dermis to evenly activate collagen production was also impressive.

Eye tip for the eye area
The eye area is thinner and has fewer sebaceous glands than other areas, making it prone to dryness. It is also the area where facial expressions are used the most, making it prone to wrinkles. Thermage FLX has an eye tip in addition to a face tip, which can help improve the elasticity of the eye area, which is small and requires delicacy. I liked the approach of using a tip suitable for the area.

Automatic adjustment and cooling pulse
It features an automatic adjustment algorithm that delivers appropriate energy to each area, delivering different energy according to skin thickness. I was worried that the high-frequency heat would cause severe pain, but the cooling pulse system protected the surface, allowing for a relatively comfortable procedure. However, the degree of sensation may vary from person to person.
Intensity and shot count tailored to your condition
If you are concerned that your pores are enlarged and fine wrinkles have increased, making you look older than before, it is important to adjust the energy intensity and shot count according to your skin condition. Even with the same device, the results can vary depending on the plan, so I felt that a detailed assessment of your condition by a clinic with extensive clinical experience was necessary. The cost can be informed after consultation.
