This is a guide to Tensera compiled by Dr. Choi Byeong-geun of SHINE U Clinic Konkuk (3 minutes walk from Konkuk Univ. Station, Exit 1).

Many people seek HIFU lifting because they want to lift the skin from deep within without surgery. Tensera is a device that enhances efficiency by adding a "twin line" method to HIFU technology. Let's summarize how it treats the skin and what makes it different.

How Tensera treats the skin

Tensera works by concentrating ultrasound energy at specific depths within the skin. Just as a magnifying glass focuses light, when energy is concentrated in one area, high heat of 60-70 degrees Celsius is generated, forming thermal coagulation points (TCPs).

When coagulation points are created in the deep SMAS layer using a 4.5mm cartridge, this layer contracts, inducing a lifting effect. With 3.0mm and 1.5mm cartridges, thermal points are also created in the dermis layer to contract aged collagen and, in the long term, induce the production of new collagen and elastin. This method reconstructs the skin structure by treating different depths.

What makes Twin Line different

The Twin Line technology is what distinguishes Tensera from other HIFU devices. Unlike conventional HIFU, which creates one line of thermal coagulation points per shot, Tensera simultaneously forms two parallel lines in a single shot. The differences are summarized as follows:

ItemConventional HIFUTensera Twin Line
Lines per shotOne lineTwo lines
Shots for same areaStandardAbout half
Treatment timeStandardShortened

Since one shot covers twice the area, the total number of shots required is reduced, and treatment time is shortened. It is also reported that the burden of pain is reduced because the time to endure high-intensity energy is shorter. However, individual differences in pain perception may occur.

"If fewer shots are used, won't the effect be weaker?" This is a frequently asked question. The Twin Line method creates two lines per shot, so even if the number of shots is reduced, the energy density per unit area is designed to be maintained. However, individual differences in results may occur.

Expected changes

The changes often discussed with Tensera are as follows:

  • Immediate contour refinement: A feeling of jawline refinement immediately after the procedure due to SMAS layer contraction.
  • Gradual elasticity improvement: Improvement in density and fine lines through collagen regeneration over 2-3 months.
  • Improved tone and texture: When the upper dermis is treated with a 1.5mm cartridge, the overall skin tone may become brighter.

Whether Tensera is suitable for your degree of sagging is something to be confirmed during a consultation with Dr. Choi Byeong-geun. If you have any questions, please contact us via chat.

Post-procedure care

It is advisable to avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area vigorously for at least 2 weeks to allow the thermal coagulation points to stabilize. Consuming sufficient protein and vitamin C, which are necessary for collagen and elastin production, and increasing water intake can help create a regenerative environment. In some cases, Thermage FLX or skin booster injections with different depths may be combined.
