This is a guide to Ultherapy PRIME compiled by Dr. Choi Byeong-geun of SHINE U Clinic Konkuk (3 minutes walk from Konkuk Univ. Station Exit 1).
I started noticing my skin looked dull and saggy, and my complexion had lost its vitality. While aging is a natural process, I worried that perhaps I wasn't managing it systematically enough, leading to faster aging. Feeling the limitations of home care, I decided to examine the foundational layers of skin elasticity.
The Impact of Elasticity on Facial Contours
When elasticity decreases, the skin sags, and the facial contours become less defined. Conversely, when elasticity is restored, it can help to sharpen the lines.
- Reduced sagging helps refine the jawline and cheek contours.
- Uneven skin texture becomes smoother.
- Leads to a healthier appearance.
Elasticity was a factor that influenced not only sagging but also skin texture and overall impression.

Reasons for Decreased Elasticity
The biggest cause of decreased elasticity is aging, due to reduced collagen and elastin production. Additionally, UV exposure, stress, irregular sleep, and poor eating habits can also contribute. Even though I knew this, it was difficult to manage alone, so I wanted to find a method that was right for me.

Why the SMAS Layer is the Foundation
Ultherapy is an ultrasound lifting device that focuses energy on the SMAS layer without damaging the surface, thereby contracting sagging tissue. I learned that the skin is composed of the epidermis, dermis, and SMAS layer, and if the foundational SMAS layer sags, wrinkles form and volume changes. Therefore, by addressing the foundation, it was possible to help improve overall elasticity. The use of Deep See, a real-time imaging technology to confirm depth during the procedure, also provided reassurance.

Why I Focused Separately on the Eye Area
I felt that the eye area was where changes were most noticeable. The skin is thin, and frequent facial expressions easily lead to wrinkles. Additionally, it's prone to dryness due to fewer sebaceous glands, and habits like rubbing the eyes can also cause wrinkles. Receiving care specifically focused on the eye area helped with fine wrinkles and refining the eyebrow area. However, the degree of results may vary individually.
Method of Addressing Multiple Depths
Using visualized micro-focused ultrasound, various depths of 1.5mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm are targeted, aiming not only for the foundational SMAS layer of elasticity but also the dermis. Since the principle involves creating thermal coagulation points with ultrasound, an understanding of the equipment and experience are essential. I felt it was important to receive treatment at a clinic that meticulously checks skin condition, rather than simply getting it because it's popular.
